Reader advises that someone emailed them saying it was deer. Deer when startled leap and land with all four feet together, which leave footprints which melt together into a single large print.
Unexplained by this theory: the stepwise pattern of right-left prints, reported by both the original three print witnesses and the photographer of the second set of prints. Also - the closest witnesses say that, up close, the prints are even more like the giant footprints the photos suggest. Interesting ...
